Today we spent a few minutes at the T-Mobile Germany pavilion at Mobile World Congress in order to get to see the new Samsung Wave 578 in action. The bada 2.0 powered 578 features an NFC reader, similar to the one found in Google's Nexus S.
The device features a 3.2-inch touchscreen display and a 3.2 megapixel camera, and is equipped with two touch sensitive controls that sit on either side of a hardware home button - all located below the display.
While T-Mobile will not be offering the Wave 578 to its customers in general, it is using the device to trial some NFC applications, including ticketing on Deutsche Bahn's rail system. A T-Mobile rep told us that it will also be trialed in Poland for next the upcoming soccer (football) championship that will be taking place there. You can see demos for both applications in the video, below.
T-Mobile said that it will begin offering NFC capable phones to its customers in general starting in the third quarter of the year.
