The latest photo sharing app ‘Color’ is the coolest social media platform for iPhone and Android users. There has been a lot of buzz with its revolutionary approach. This app does not have friends or groups to share pics and videos with, rather items get shared automatically with all Color users who are within 150 feet of where they were taken. This means that each user can get multiple points of view of the same subject.
The Color team, including CEO Bill Nguyen, described situations where this app can be helpful- a Color user attending a concert with his phone full of photos from everyone else using the app. It would be interesting if someone would take photos from backstage, so that you can see band members prepping themselves for the sets. Links to the albums can be shared via Twitter, Facebook, e-mail, or SMS.
This app has set the tech world by storm. its radical functionality is responsible for much of the enthusiasm surrounding the app. On Thursday, it received a $41 million pre-release cash injection from venture capitalists, although the first day reviews were not very good. Many say that the app is useless unless used within the vicinity of other Color users.
Users also complained that the app includes very little instruction for how to use it, and doesn’t explain what the app does. The app is also making the users lonely as their pictures are the only ones that show up in the app when they use it alone. Also there are some privacy concerns, as all pics and videos get shared automatically.
The Color team has already started working on an update to fix the ‘loneliness’ issue. According to CEO Bill Nguyen , the update will do two things: First, make it impossible to use the app unless other Color users are around; and second, increase the distance required for another user to be considered “nearby.”
The update should be available as soon as the middle of next week. Till then, Color users are asked to get more friends.
The app is available at the Apple app store and the Android marketplace.
